Online Safety
The safety of our members at Yaba, especially our younger members is extremely important to us so please read some of our helpful advice for keeping safe online.

Our policy is to take every step possible to minimise danger to our members within the budget, technology and service operation of our site. We can not accept responsibility for any content or transmission originating from users through our site doe to the nature of user created content.

The responsibility of younger member safety on our site or any other must ultimately fall to parents, teachers and guardians. To that end we have provided this guide to highlight some key advice for avoiding possible dangers. For parents we strongly recommend that you talk with your children on a regular basis about their internet use. Please note that no person under the age of 13 years of age are allowed to sign up an account at Yaba.com

Nothing is Truth!

You should be aware that no matter what you are told in Yaba, no matter how convincing a user may be, that what you hear should never be considered the truth. People do lie about their age and sex as well as other details. Any conversation in the chat rooms should be considered as idol chat only.

Disclosure of Personally Identifying Information

You should be aware that with only a small amount of information a dangerous person may be able to ascertain anything from where you live to what bank accounts you hold. Users should never provide their surname, address, or the name of the school or workplace under any circumstances. To do so would expose you to possible danger.

It is also highly recommended that users do not provide their email address to others, but rather use the Yaba internal messaging system. This prevents others from obtaining your IP address which can be used to discover a general location and internet service provider.

Chat Addiction

People sometimes use online chat as a form of socialising when they are depressed, stressed or lonely. Online chat can be particularly attractive in these situations because of its non-confrontational nature. We consider this as positive because it allows people to still socially connect during hardships. However you should not let your time spent online get out of control. Addiction can sometimes occur! Parents in particular should monitor for signs that your child is withdrawing from their responsibilities and real life socialising.

Talk With Your Children

It is important to talk to your children about their use of the internet. Be aware, in many cases your children may know more about computers and the internet than you. This is very common, but allows you to opportunity to learn from you children and make monitoring their use of the internet a positive experience for all. Ask them about their internet experiences and ensure they understand the dangers involved. I would also recommend setting some ground rules for the use of the internet. If you would like to know more about how this site runs I would recommend signing up as a member yourself and getting involved as a responsible example to others.

Meeting Yaba Friends

If you intend on meeting another member in person it is extremely important that you take precautions. Select a public place away from your own local area and take a friend with you. If you are under 18 years of age you should consult your parents first and know where you are going to be.

Report It!

If you see something that worries you on the site I strongly recommend that you report it. If we don’t know about it, then we are powerless to address potential problems.
